About us

The Coös Coalition for Young Children and Families is dedicated to ensuring that all children in Coös County have healthy and successful futures. Our mission is to promote optimal development for children from birth through age eight and their families in Coös and surrounding communities. We believe that by working together, we can create a strong foundation for all children, enabling positive social, physical, emotional, and cognitive growth.

our vision

We envision a coordinated, sustainable system of support for families and children that centers on family experiences and encourages holistic child development. Our efforts focus on building a community where every child can thrive and every family feels supported

our mission

To promote optimal development for children from birth through age eight and their families in Coös and surrounding communities.

our history

The Coalition for Childhood Wellbeing was born out of a shared vision among community leaders, educators, and child advocates to create a holistic system that supports the growth and development of young children. The journey began in 2010 with a series of discussions and community meetings, driven by the pressing need for a more coordinated approach to early childhood development. Recognizing the fragmented nature of existing services, the founders, including influential advocate Cathy McDowell, aimed to integrate various programs and resources to ensure that every child had access to the necessary tools for a healthy start in life.
The foundational vision of the Coalition centered around the belief that wellbeing is a fundamental right for all children. Their vision encompassed the creation of environments where children can thrive emotionally, physically, and socially. The Coalition identified key domains of wellbeing, including social connectedness, stability, safety, mastery, and meaningful access to relevant resources. These domains have guided the Coalition's strategies and initiatives since its inception.

Coalition Partners

We can not do this work alone so our partners are extremely valuable! Collective impact is crucial, particularly in the context of early childhood systems, because it recognizes that addressing complex social issues requires collaborative and coordinated efforts from various stakeholders. By bringing together diverse organizations, agencies, and individuals under a common agenda, collective impact fosters a shared understanding of the challenges and goals, facilitates effective communication and coordination, leverages resources, and aligns strategies to achieve meaningful and sustainable change. This collaborative approach maximizes the impact of interventions, ensures comprehensive support for children and families, and promotes long-term positive outcomes in early childhood development.

The Coalition has three levels of partnership:
  1. Leadership Team: Signed organization representatives who set strategic direction, provide stewardship, and lead continuous development of the Coalition. The Leadership Team serves as the final decision-making body for the Coalition.
  2. Supporting Partners/Champions: Collaborative partners who are actively engaged in Coalition activities (e.g., workgroups) as part of the Early Childhood system, but do not serve on the Leadership Team. Submit our form for more information on how to be a collaborative partner and / or join one of our many workgroups.
  3. Network Partners: Community partners who are part of the Early Childhood/Family Serving system and are kept informed about the activities of the Coalition.
